With the mammoth task of having to prepare for a 70.3 World Championships I’d qualified for 5 years before when I was much fitter, and my work life now taking me all over the world on a weekly basis, I decided there was no way I could do this without a coach. And that’s when I thought of Ady and Elliot, who I’d met on a couple of training camps pre Covid and had seen they’d started a coaching business. Plus I knew they were both pretty decent cyclists, so it seemed a perfect opportunity to maybe improve what has always been my weakest discipline! Cue a chat with Ady in March about my aims for the year ahead, how Crucible Tri worked, and off we went!

The weekly sessions started appearing in Training Peaks, nicely slotted around work trips and making the most of available facilities downroute. Let’s be honest, none of this stuff is easy, but the daily contact with Ady was a game changer. It really helped when I’d be panicking about the swimming pool only being 12m long, the turbo trainer not playing ball at 5am before work or feeling too under the weather for some of the big sessions when I was back at home and jet lagged. I certainly wouldn’t have made it to the start line without the support of Ady, never mind the finish line! Thank you SO MUCH Ady, I’ll have a rest and then come back for some more fun!!

I’m a 41 year old keen cyclist who’s always been up to challenging myself to see what I can do. In October 2021 I had kidney failure and whilst being laid in bed worrying if my exercise days were over, I made a list of the challenges I haven’t yet done and really wanted to do and that became my focus point to get better and push on as I wasn’t ready to stop yet.

Triathlon was top of the list, especially iron distance, just to see if I could. Ady has been a good friend and inspiration for me in my cycling so I approached him to see if he would help me achieve my goal. He was more than happy to coach me and gently pushed me in the right direction. Giving me the insight and knowledge when recovering to push or hold back and slowly build my strength and then when he could see the improvements were happening, he pushed me on again. His knowledge of training in all the aspects, swim, bike, run have been invaluable to me as a novice to help me train in the right way and at the right time. If you are willing to commit and work with Ady as your coach, his intuition and knowledge will most definitely push you beyond anything you thought you could achieve and you will absolutely achieve your goals, I know I did. I crossed the finish line of my 2nd triathlon 9 months after leaving hospital and it was the full outlaw (iron distance) at Nottingham. Chuffed to bits and I would never have made that without Ady's guidance.
